What is a Training Ceremony?

Ceremony is created when the People are called to gather in a safe space to intentionally be with Mother Nature. When this is done well - the People will experience the Divine. This is what makes it Ceremony.

 Living Soils Day

June - July - August - every Summer

On the second Thursday 10am-2pm of each Summer month, you are invited to come to our Living Soils Day workshop. This workshop is designed for youth (and those young at heart) - ages 12 and up.

Walking the pasture, we will perform the following soil-quality tests in 3-4 different areas of the pasture:

  1. Shovel test - observe soil quality & count the earthworms (and other creatures) in a shovel-full of soil

  2. Soil temperature test - different temps of bare, covered and sub soils

  3. Water infiltration test - time how long it takes the soil to absorb 1 inch of water

  4. Brix test - a measure of the nutritional value of a growing plant and its fruit or food

  5. Soil test - gather soil samples to send to the lab for natural organic chemical analysis

  6. View soil samples under the Farm microscope to count: soil bacteria, soil fungi & soil nematodes

We won’t stop for lunch, so bring portable food & water if you’ll need it.

There will also be an opportunity to view and learn about whatever animals are currently living on the Farm - typically Katahdin sheep, and assorted poultry - chickens, roosters, turkeys, Guinea hens, & ducks.

!Tick Advisory! - everyone must wear boots and long pants. For your protection, NO uncovered feet or legs, nor sandals nor shorts allowed.

Arrive by 10am. We’re normally complete sometime between 1-2pm, depending on size of group and questions.

Fee: $100/car load of people. $20/bicycle. Cash only collected upon arrival.
